Before we head into December, here comes a brand-new instalment of WeltBeat host and selector Jean Trouillet's far-reaching Globalwize format. Originally aired on Frankfurt community radio X, this one is another 'African Presence' special, that places a focus on the many histories of African music. On the mic are Trouillet and his frequent collaborator, Dr. Hauke Dorsch, director of the African Music Archives at the University of Mainz. The full show is now streaming exclusively via greedio on Mixcloud.
This show is a follow up to the "Globalwize Radioshow #454" aired back in July and features a short but sweet selection of music to accompany the exchange between Trouillet and Dorsch (which is held in German). The "Globalwize Radioshow #464" brings us music by Mali's Baba Sangare of R.T.M., taken from the soundtrack to the BBC TV Series "Under African Skies", one-off project Tama featuring established vocalist Susheela Raman, Malian kora virtuoso and griot Sidiki Diabaté, iconic 1970s Malian outfit Rail Band, Malian guitarist Djelimady Tounkara, Grammy-award-winning US jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, Malian singer-songwriter Salif Keita, Senegalese kora maestro Lamine Konté, fellow Senegalese master of the traditional 'sabar' drum Doudou N'Diaye Rose and, last but not least, Danish sampling wizards Den Sorte Skole alongside the Choral de St. Joseph de Dakar.
You can stream the full two hours via the player below or head directly to our greedio channel on Mixcloud for this and more quality audio content. Find the detailed tracklist here.
